Conservation & Preservation

A lot of the materials contemporary artists choose to work with are not durable and pose considerable challenges in the never-ending task to preserve the collection holdings for future generations.

It's not only important to respect the authenticity and materiality of the artworks, but also consider the intentions of the artist and simultanously provide for the natural aging of the artworks.

For every work of art a different, individual approach is needed. To solve the often complex problems, the restauration is constantly interacting with interdisciplinary colleagues and scientific institutes.

Ute Kannengießer cares for nearly 7.000 works of art of different media such as contemporary painting, paper, photography, sculpture and av media. A special focus lies on substantial restaurational and conservational work on single objects.
