Im Rahmen der Ausstellung BLUT & HONIG - Zukunft ist am Balkan gibt die junge bulgarische Künstlerin Milena Iossifova eine Soloperformance in der Sammlung Essl. Mit ihrem selbst entwickelten
Computerinstrument voiceMutator manipuliert sie ihre eigene Stimme und setzt diese mit elektronischen Sounds, die aus bulgarischer
Volksmusik abgeleitet sind, in Beziehung. Die musikalische Aktion wird von einer Videoprojektion begleitet, die in Echtzeit
aus einem Kamera-Input generiert wird.
voiceMutator is a physical interface for real-time manipulation of the voice. It is an instrument, exploring the possible collaboration
between natural human sounds and computer-aided sound processing. As a Bulgarian artist, living in the technology intensive
New York City, I am interested to explore the connections between where I have come from and where I a now, to mix the Bulgarian
culture with advanced performance technolgies. I am not a professional folk singer so I expect to incorporate snippets of
Bulgarian folk voices/ instruments in the performance. These, together with the narrative geared to the topic Blood and Honey
- will be manipulated in real-time with the voiceMutator. A live video feedback will accompany the performance and reference
the cultural loop/feedback of my upbringing in the Balkans, disappearing, yet reinforced by the real-time audio and imagery.
